I had never done yoga in my life and had no plans to. That is until I saw what Bikram did for my wife. She had severe back issues and was told she would require surgery. She literally could not stand up straight, and barely could get in and out of her car. She heard about Bikram and decided to give it a try. She had done several types of yoga in the past. She is a runner and really wanted to get back to that. She went religiously, literally every day for 6 months and was soon thereafter running again. That was 5 years ago and she is still running, going to Bikram and has had no back surgery.
I too am a long time athlete, still lifting, running and biking quite a bit. As I have moved into my 50s, I have found my back tightens up a lot. Also, I had a severe hamstring injury 8 years ago, that resulted in my left hamstring being completely torn off. So when my wife suggest I go to Bikram, I immediately dismissed it. Then she use 101 phycology when she said “you could not do it”. Well I fell for it and I went to my first class over 4 years ago. I have to say it is the best thing I have ever done! My back feels great, my hamstring scar tissue and flexibility has improved tremendously, (the good one as well), my overall body posture is much better and I am able to continue to run and work out much more effectively with much less pain and discomfort than before Bikram. I always feel great when I come out of that room.
The older I get the more it seems to help, keeping me limber and flexible.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to improved their, mind, body and wellbeing.
